Photo: Artist Titus Matiyane with his work by Ans van Berkum

Its from the birds eye where roads and rivers, forests and farmlands connect to cities and landscapes. These are the panoramic maps by South African artist and musician Titus Matiyane (Atteridgeville, 1964) on show at the Zuiderstrand Theater in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Born out of his imagination, Matiyane’s landscapes could be as big as 46 x 1,5 metres. They were first exhibited in 1998 at the Dutch Institute for Architecture in Rotterdam. Ever since his works were part of exhibitions in Berlin, Lille, Casablanca, Johannesburg and Shanghai. Matiyane’s Pretoria landscape will be on view in the Japanese Pavillion at the upcoming Venice Biennal.
