On Friday the 20th of October, the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra will premiere their latest piece Leo Africanus in Podium Mozaïek in Amsterdam.

With a musical narrative, the orchestra brings an ode to the special life of a world traveler and great thinker. In 1492, Hassan El Wazzan, alias Leo Africanus, fled from Granada and decided to never derive his identity from a country, a particular culture or religion. During his trip to Europe, he was captured and imprisoned in Rome. He was kept in jail until he was noticed by Pope Leo X who turned him into 'Leo Africanus'. With music, storytelling, cabaret and theater, the show sets the confrontation between the pope and Leo Africanus. Against the background of a politically turbulent time, they look at each other's history and try to understand one another. Win two tickets for this exciting show.
