A.K.A 2016: Celebrating Afrikaans and Diversity

Amsterdam in the Netherlands will be full of music, literature, film, debate and art in Afrikaans between 8 and 10 April 2016. Our Dutch readers are invited to meet South Africans Jack Parow, Antjie Krog, Hemelbesem, Tom Lanoye, Bettina Wyngaard, Ingrid Winterbach and many more at the upcoming A.K.A Afrikaanse Kultuurfees in Amsterdam. The 3d edition of this festival is happening at the Compagnietheater, the Melkweg, the Zuid-Afrika Huis and Rialto cinema.

On Sunday April 10,  ZAM will co-host the debate 'Gezichten van een taal – Faces of a language.' Starting at 1 PM at the Compagnietheater, professors Annemarie Beukes and Pieter Muysken and rapper Jack Parow will discuss the position of Afrikaans in South Africa's multilingual context. They will also explore the meaning of the South African experience for the Netherlands and Europe. This debate, facilitated by Dutch crime writer and linguistic expert René Appel, is a collaboration between A.K.A., Maandblad Zuid-AfrikaDrongo Festival and ZAM.

ZAM editor Bart Luirink will take part in a session Remembering André Brink on April 9, the launch of Ena Jansen's book Soos Familie and a debate about violence against lesbian women.
