The inaugural exhibition with Zanele Muholi, Meshac Gaba, Nicholas Hlobo, Peter Clarke, Viviane Sassen, Neo Matloga, Moshekwa Langa, Breyten Breytenbacht, Kemang Wa Lehulere.

The new Amsterdam base of Stevenson (Cape Town, Johannesburg) opened in June with an exhibition that included pieces by Zanele Muholi, Meshac Gaba, Nicholas Hlobo, Neo Matloga, Kemang Wa Lehulere, Moshekwa Langa, Breyten Breytenbach and Viviane Sassen. Winter Sun, the title of the exhibition is inspired by a linocut of South African artist Peter Clarke who studied at the Rijksacademie in 1962. Clarke (1929-2014), shown at the exhibition in a video conversation, is today considered one of the most prominent black artists in South Africa. We would like to give you the opportunity to view the exhibition before it closes in September.

ZAM and Stevenson have long been partners. Since its founding in 2003, the gallery has provided many works for ZAM publications that bring artists from this gallery to the attention of an (international) audience. Stevenson was also helpful with the delivery of images that Zanele Muholi donated to ZAM, such as the iconic work Thabile, Parktown (2015). With the proceeds from this now sold photograph, Muholi contributed to the continuing work of our platform. ZAM, in turn, gladly contributes to the promotion of the brilliant talents in Stevenson’s portfolio.

Please join us for views, chats and drinks! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 29 August between 4h30 and 6h30pm.

We would appreciate it if you let us know that you are coming. For an RSVP go This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (put RSVP Stevenson in the suibject line).
