12.03.21 | Conversations with Ngugi wa Thiong'o

In this online live event, Rose Wambui Kamande, Odilia Anyachi Okonga, Vamba Sherif and Rahab Njeri will discuss life and work, especially his latest work, The Perfect Nine with the Kenyan giant world literature.

Ngugi's influence is indisputable. The continent of Africa and the entire world is proud to have him in their midst. He continues to extend the boundaries of literature and to emphasise the importance of native languages in the evolution of cultures.

The conversation will take place on 12th March, 2021, 20h00 Central Eastern Time (22h00 East African time). The writer's latest work, The Perfect Nine, will get special attention. According to the organizers this book, inspired by the famous Catalan legend Canigo by Jacinth Verdaguer, is a creation story from African perspectives with emphasis on the role of women, 'the bearers of culture', who have influenced the trajectory of the present and future and 'have ensured the survival of humanity since the first beginning'. Rose Kamande, organizer of the event says: ‘The book is an accumulation of all themes that had the defined the work of this pioneer of African literature: the struggle for freedom, love, language, friendship, knowledge...’ Co-organiser Dutch based Liberian writer Vamba Sherif adds: ‘The conversation will give you a unique opportunity to pick the mind of the living legend. You will have the chance, one in a lifetime, to see him and interact with him’.

The event is an initiative of KAAAL, an organisation based in Germany and The Netherlands. The purpose of KAAAL is to bring to light the works of more greatly reverd authors and African literary work.
