Artists from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, the Netherlands and the USA will take part in the 6th exhibition for the Afrovibes Performing Arts Festival The exhibition will run together with the festival at various locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam.
The exhibition features emerging artists, political cartoonists, seasoned illustrators, photographers and first time artist exhibitors.
Thania Petersen is the featured artist this year’s exhibition. Thania's work can be seen at different locations including the Amsterdam No Mans Art Gallery. She was recently featured in the New York Times as a must see artist.
The exhibition is curated by Ingrid Masondo of the South African National Gallery and Fiercepop’s Cathal McKee. Exhihibition producer Noxolo Maketha has commented on putting the exhibition together:
"I'm really struck by the work. My country is going through a lot of pain with gender-based violence, xenophobia and an overall period of anger and sadness. These artworks resonate with how I feel about the powers that be are inactive and reactive to our current cries. Being part of Fiercepop in gathering works and connecting with artists to help bring this all together into one message has been awesome!"
