Written by Sylvia Vollenhoven and performed by the Volksoperahuis, Krotoa tells the story of multicultural relationship in a colonial era.
South Africa 2018. A Dutch actor and a South African actress meet on the film set by Krotoa: Eva van de Kaap. He plays Van Riebeeck, the VOC merchant who founded the colony on the Cape in 1652. She plays Krotoa, the Khoe girl who ended up in his household at a very young age and became an interpreter between the Dutch and her own people. Krotoa was the first Khoe woman to be baptized and who officially married a European. She did not come out of the battle between two cultures unharmed. On the film set the actors not only enter into confrontation in their historical role, but also with each other.
