Unveiling of Mandela Landscape in Cape Town

Blog / By ZAM reporter

Anton Corbijn: "I am extremely excited that the work has found a home in Cape Town."

As an expression of our appreciation for the achievements of Artscape in turning this former exclusively white bastion into a meeting place for all people, ZAM has donated a print of the artwork Mandela Landscape to the theatre. ZAM values its partnership with Artscape as a celebration of the power of arts and culture in building just and equal societies. Mandela Landscape, an art piece by photographer Anton Corbijn and visual artist Berend Strik, will be unveiled at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on Thursday 16 February 2017 at 4h30 PM.

The work, a lithographic print out of a series of 80 signed and numbered by the artists, was made in support of ZAM, the Amsterdam-based platform of investigative journalists, artists and activists from Africa and beyond. With this gesture the artists follow in the footsteps of Marlene Dumas, Zanele Muholi and Ruan Hoffmann, whose support has previously assisted ZAM 's work to build international solidarity and break through the walls between 'us' and 'them.'

Members of the ZAM Team will be present at the unveiling, amongst them Conny Braam, former president of the Dutch AAM, writer and ZAMbassador, and Bart Luirink, editor-in-chief of ZAM magazine.
